In the thirties, the boldly minimalist Parsons table was a radical retort to the ornate design of a prior age. We've taken this modernist icon, changed the design to 2 slabs instead of 4 legs and added textural maximalism by covering it in shagreen and trimming it in warm Belgian grey wood, without sacrificing its utter simplicity. Such a stripped-down form requires absolute perfection in both material and construction; there's nowhere for the slightest flaw to hide, but this only adds a profound elegance. There's remarkable functionality in this nesting table. Use the smaller pieces as stools, for example, or additional surfaces for a cocktail party. But it also offers an opportunity to play with asymmetry by arranging the three pieces in an abstract composition, a style that was emerging alongside the Parsons itself.
